Quiltfest 2022
|
When 10 friends met at the end of February 2020 for a weekend of quilting they didn’t even mention Covid 19! It was at Plas Tan y Bwlch, the Snowdonia National Park Study Centre, near Blaenau Ffestiniog: so PTB became the abbreviation by which we are known!
Three weeks later it became apparent that the country would be locked down and everyone would be confined to their houses. One of the group suggested that we should each stitch a 9 inch block a month to share with the group. The theme for the first month was a memory of our weekend away and then other themes were chosen, often linked to Wales! On the 24th of each month the blocks were revealed on the WhatsApp group.
At the end of the first year we were still under restrictions and we decided to continue with the monthly challenge. Each person would choose an artist and everyone would interpret the work of that artist in their own way.
We have also completed two ‘Chinese Whispers’ challenges and have each made a pouch that was given to another member of the group at Christmas in a Secret Santa exchange. The Twelve Days of Christmas idea proved a real challenge for some of us!
Over the past two years the group has produced over 260 pieces of work. These are a few of our favourites which were displayed at Quiltfest.
