Beside the Sea, Isles of Scilly
A memory of the lovely turquoise seas and silvery sands on the Isles of Scilly.
This little quilt was machine appliquéd and hand and machine quilted. Quilts UK judges merit, miniatures 2009.
Lakeland Beck
Based on a photograph I took while we were visiting the Lake District, the colours were so strong and in obvious strips that it was crying out to be a landscape.
All cottons, it took me two trials of different techniques to get the water to look as if it was moving. I hope I succeeded. Some hand dyed fabrics used. Quilts UK, 3rd, miniatures 2007.
Lincolnshire Seascape – Dunes
As we live near the Lincolnshire Coast I couldn’t resist taking up a challenge to make a miniature landscape quilt. It is my interpretation of a watercolour painting by Louth artist Tom Brooker.
The cotton fabrics are all hand appliquéd and quilted.
Magic Sea
I love the sea wherever we go, by steep cliffs or dunes with marram grass. Magic Sea is based on a photograph I took when I was on the Atlantic coast in the Algarve. The colours of the sea and cliff were magical.
Made of cotton fabrics, some hand painted. I used a technique based on Valerie Hearder’s cut and collage method, hand appliquéd and part hand/ part machine quilted.
Sand Between the Toes
Following on from the winter scene created from A A Mine's poem I wanted to try to recapture the same area in the summer.Foundation pieced and hand appliquéd and machine and hand quilted. Quilts UK, miniatures, 1st and judges choice, 2010.
Whenever a Cold Nor’easter Blows
Watching two figures walking along a Lincolnshire beach in the winter I was reminded of A A Milne’s oem, Sand Between the Toes. In the poem it’s a cold Nor’wester but we are on the east coast.
Foundation pieced and hand appliquéd. Machine and hand quilted. Festival of Quilts, 3rd miniatures, 2009.
These last 2 miniatures were made by Sandra especially for Quiltfest, so visitors to the exhibition were the first to see them.
Colours of the Seaside
Colours of the Seaside - I have always loved the work of Mary Fogg interpreting landscapes using strips of colour and this is my try at a miniature strippy landscape. It is all foundation pieced in cottons.
Size: 6.25" x 8"
Lleyn View
We used to have family holidays in Nefyn on the Lleyn Peninsular when I was young and this is my reminder of those days. Made with cottons and part hand applique, part foundation pieced and part machine applique.
