Peaceful Heart Quilt Group was set up in 1991 in Yuza-machi, Yamagata Prefecture, while quilter Susan Briscoe was teaching English in the town. The group's leader and teacher is Reiko Domon. The group organise their own quilt shows in and around Yuza, including recent exhibitions at Yuza Community Centre (2006), Shonai Airport (2008) and Yuza Yurari Culture Centre (2008).
Recent successes include awards at the Tokushima Prefectural Crafts Show last year. Quilts made by various group members have also been shown at national and international quilt shows in Japan and the UK . Nine members of the group travelled to the UK for the inaugural Festival of Quilts in 2003, where their work was shown as part of the "Magic of Sashiko" exhibition.
Quilts by various group members have been included in Quiltfest for several years and work by Gresford Craft Group, Wrexham Quilting Circle and Chester Ps & Qs members have been featured in Peaceful Heart's exhibitions in Japan since 2001.
The traditional local sashiko techniques are often incorporated into Peaceful Heart quilts.
