Barbara Howell

It is with deep regret that we have to inform you that Barbara Howell passed away on 9th December 2013.

Quiltfest will continue and will be a fitting celebration of her life as a greatly respected and much loved textile artist.

Barbara made quilts, wall hangings, panels and bags, using a wide vocabulary of techniques, especially machine embroidery.  

She was fascinated with the possibilities of interpreting design ideas by using textiles.

'Different fabrics and threads offer a great variety in terms of texture, pattern and colour but the possibilities for me to elaborate on these are endless! I print, bleach and dye as well as creating texture with fancy stitching and fabric manipulation.  Careful examination of my work will reveal that I often use a number of such techniques within one piece of work.'
